Four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was offered the opportunity to train with Arsenal by the team’s long-serving manager Arsène Wenger.

Hamilton enjoyed a few encounters over the years with the legendary French coach, the most successful in terms of titles one and a man who is credited with revolutionizing football in England in the late 1990s through the introduction of changes in training and strict dieting.

"I always had great admiration for Arsene," Hamilton told the media in Baku.

"For anyone to have commitment to a team and the loyalty he's shown, through all the ups and downs, through outside individuals saying negatives, positives, media saying positives, negatives, but to stay true to your values and continue to strive to what you believe in, I think he's really been awesome.

"While the team hasn't always been successful I really hope that he feels great about his time. I had the privilege of meeting him a couple of times, which was actually pretty late in my career, which was strange because I could have met him early."

Hamilton has been a faithful supporter of the London club since he was a child, and still follows the Gunners' every move.

"He actually asked me to go and train with the team which I haven't been able to do yet," he added.

But he was always really welcoming and it's always cool to meet our team boss -- I've been supporting them since I was five, so I really want to wish him all the best and I think his future is as bright as he wants it to be.

"I hope he takes the positives out of the great experiences he has and I really wish him all the best for the future."
