Perez has no regrets about not joining Renault

Sergio Perez isn't in the habit of revisiting the past, insisting he has no regrets about not joining Renault when the opportunity came about.

The 28-year-old Mexican is in his eighth season of F1, his fifth with Force India, and all signs appear to point to a sixth season with the Silverstone-based outfit that was recently saved from a painful demise by its new owners, a consortium led by Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll.

"It's a matter of days or weeks. The contract is there, it's just the position of the team that must be clarified," Perez told Fox.

"The team is coming from a complex situation, but fortunately the 400 workers are all safe with a good investment that guarantees stability," he added.

The drivers' market was ignited two weeks ago by the unexpected news of Daniel Ricciardo's move from Red Bull Racing to Renault, a team that once courted Perez. He held out however, hoping for a bigger opportunity, but it never came to pass.

"When you have no chance at Ferrari or Mercedes, I think Force India is a very interesting option," he admits.

"I do not regret not signing with Renault, because in the last two years I was best of the rest. As a team we were in front of Renault in the constructors' championship."
