Force India would surprise with F1 budget cap - Ocon

Esteban Ocon believes Force India would likely perform at an even better level with a budget cap in place in Formula 1.

With the sport's managers determined to bring costs down and level F1's playing field, a budget cap of some sort will likely be introduced in the future.

Force India has demonstrated its ability to extract the most from its resources which are nowhere near the level enjoyed by the front-running teams.

A budget cap would only enhance the Silverstone-based outfit's efficiency, says Ocon.

"Honestly, if everyone had the same budget, I think some people would be surprised at what Force India can achieve," said the French driver.

"With the budget we have, what we are achieving is amazing. The level of work we are putting in is a lot, but at the end the level is there, and the performance is on track.

"[Having a budget cap in Formula 1] would be nice!"

Recent reports have suggested the imposition of a $150M limit on spending, but the figure could actually go as low as 100M euros.

It has also been suggested that a budget cap would likely be applied incrementally, with 2019 determined to be a "trial year", with no penalties for overspending and the specific cap to not include driver, top management or marketing costs.
