Montreal speed trap: who is the fastest of them all?

As a veritable power hungry track, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve enjoys some impressive top speeds.

In qualifying trim yesterday, Sauber's Pascal Wehrlein topped the speed trap readings with an impressive 335 km/h.

The speed of the Sauber is striking. Why? Because it's powered by a year-old Ferrari engine which both Wehrlein and team mate Marcus Ericsson consider to be the their car's main weakness.

Downforce settings may have also played a major role yesterday as the German driver was almost 7km/ faster than his team mate at the Swiss outfit.

At the other end of the spectrum, Fernando Alonso's poor reading of 319.6 km/h speaks volumes once again about his McLaren chassis' outstanding efficiency.

When the Spaniard say's he'd be up front with the equivalent of Mercedes' power behind him, he's probably right.
