Jordan 191 - 1991

Michael Schumacher was a fresh-faced 22-year-old when he received a late call-up from Jordan to replace Bertrand Gachot in the nimble, albeit modest, 191 for the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix.

Although the German had no prior knowledge of the daunting Spa-Francorchamps circuit, let alone in a Formula One car, Schumacher stunned the paddock by qualifying seventh, four spots ahead of his more experienced team-mate Andrea de Cesaris.

Schumacher’s maiden Grand Prix would only last a few meters as he retired with clutch issues on the opening lap, but he undeniably left a mark, so much in fact that he would join Benetton after that single race with Jordan.
