Team Haas: First Act

Gene Haas' eponymous team was actually preceded in F1 history by another Haas outfit.  Carl Haas' Beatrice squad looked quite impressive on paper when it entered F1 in 1985, boasting all the right credentials and some strong financial backing. Unfortunately, the effort failed miserably thanks in part to  an unreliable Ford power plant and finances which fell apart in 1986. Pictured here is Eddie Cheever in Detroit in 1986. The American, who was standing in for an injured Patrick Tambay, was actually the very last US driver to race in F1 with a US team
