Team Mercedes must have been holding its collective breath at the start. Wanting to get stuck in the battle at the front, Hamilton got far too close to the Verstappen-Vettel incident and nearly became a casualty from the outset. Can anyone remember a driver winning the title and getting lapped by the race winner in the same race? No matter, Lewis is now Britain’s most decorated champion as perhaps his greatest season nears its end.
