For once employing extreme discretion –with a one race ban lingering over his head in the case of a penalty - the Russian drove a decent race. Starting six spots behind his team, he finished just two places behind Sainz. With a car not suited for the challenges mighty Spa poses and with a 20-place penalty after suffering a blown engine, it would’ve been hard to dream of anything better without a GP full of retirements.
