From F1 to Indy: a crossover of diverse fortunes

Jochen Rindt

Not very many Austrians have raced in the most prestigious race in the US. Rindt tried it twice, in 67 and 68. He qualified by the skin of his teeth in his first go, which ended just after half-distance with an issue to the Ford powering his Eagle. The following year he started in mid-field, but only completed five laps before the Repco in his Brabham, - for whom he drove for in F1 – spit out a few pistons during the Memorial Day extravaganza.
