From F1 to Indy: a crossover of diverse fortunes

Jack Brabham

Another multiple word champion, Black Jack ran in the American classic four times, but it never went according to plan. In 1961 he qualified 13th in a Cooper Climax, finishing 9th on the same lap as race winner A.J. Foyt, In 1964 he retired with a feeding problem with one of his own cars powered by an Offenhauser. In 1969 and ignition issue with his Brabham Repco ended his day while battling at the sharp end of the order. In 1970 he was back with Offenhauser power, but it let him down late in the race.
