From F1 to Indy: a crossover of diverse fortunes

For all his outstanding success in motor racing, Mario Andretti  seemed to be cursed with a perpetual string of bad luck at Indianapolis. He won in 1969, but never managed to win the great race a second time before his retirement in 1994. There were multiple seasons when the F1 legend traveled across the Atlantic in May to Indiana, only to hear public address announcer Tom Carnegie squawk the dubiously famous words "Mario is slowing down".
