Brabham's Nelson Piquet won the 1980 Dutch Grand Prix on this date 36 years ago. This was the Brazilian’s second career win, the second of that season as well, which allowed him to close the gap to rival Alan Jones in the title fight. Piquet made it back-to-back victories at Monza a couple of weeks later but a strong finish by Jones, who won the final two races held in Canada and the US, meant the Australian was able to clinch Williams’ maiden world championship.
