One crash too many for de Cesaris and Ligier

On this day in 1985, Andrea de Cesaris picked the straw that broke his Ligier's back after a spectacular accident in the Austrian GP.

The erratic Italian driver went head over heels on lap 14 of the race, living up to his nickname 'Andrea de Crasheris' but also destroying his car.

It was a long walk back to the pits and a painful reception for Andrea who was fired on the spot by Guy Ligier.

"I can no longer afford the services of this young man," said the boss.

Unfortunately, it would not be the last time de Cesaris would hear that phrase...
